BJC Business Diversity

Our commitment to business diversity.

BJC HealthCare places a significant focus on business diversity. We are committed to advancing health equity and supporting the BJC Community Health Improvement (CHI) anchor mission to close the racial wage and wealth gap and improve individual and community-level health by investing in St. Louis City and North St. Louis County.

Business Diversity Implementation

To support local businesses reflective of the community, BJC HealthCare established a Business Diversity Implementation Group in partnership with BJC Community Health Improvement, BJC Supply Chain, BJC Planning Design and Construction, and Washington University in St. Louis.

BJC Supply Chain

BJC HealthCare’s Supplier Diversity Initiative began in 2020 and continues to evolve, while working to improve its ability to provide opportunities for diverse businesses and enterprises. This initiative seeks to improve the financial health and well-being of the people and communities BJC HealthCare serves by providing business opportunities and contracts with certified diverse companies. BJC HealthCare promotes diversity, equity and inclusion in all its endeavors, including its world-class supply chain.

BJC Planning, Design & Construction

As a major consumer of design and construction services in the region, BJC is committed to being a leader in supporting a strong, viable and sustainable minority- and women-owned business enterprise (MBE/WBE) market of health care construction consultants and contractors and an expanded minority/female workforce. BJC Business Partners

BJC HealthCare is a member of Vizient and a member of the BJC Amici group purchasing organization. BJC HealthCare is also affiliated with Washington University School of Medicine, one of the most clinically advanced institutions in the nation.

BJC continues to strengthen its partnership with the St. Louis Anchor Action Network (STLAAN), including hiring and procurement efforts. In 2023, The James S. McDonnell Foundation (JSMF) awarded STLAAN $2.4 million to begin to implement the recommendations outlined in their work with Pricewaterhouse Coopers to build capacity for their work.

The Healthcare Anchor Network (HAN) catalyzes health systems to leverage their hiring, purchasing, investing and other key assets to build inclusive local economies to address economic and racial inequities in community conditions that create poor health. HAN supports health systems in implementing the anchor mission by raising the bar for best-in-class practices, accelerating adoption among individual organizations through an action-oriented framework and fostering unique sector collaborations to scale social impact.

We continue to foster our relationships with local chambers of commerce, such as the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Metro St. Louis and Heartland St. Louis Black Chamber of Commerce to build stronger support systems for diverse businesses.
