Doug Pogue, MD
President, BJC Medical GroupDoug leads BJC Medical Group, the employed physician platform of BJC HealthCare, along with BJC HealthCare’s Accountable Care Organization, the employed hospital medical platform and BJC Corporate Health. The Medical Group consists of more than 600 care providers in more than 150 outpatient practice locations with seven hospitalist programs, and focuses on providing high-quality, cost-effective health care while reshaping ambulatory and hospital-based practices to provide accountable care and better population health management.
BJC HealthCare represents the Eastern Region of BJC Health System, which serves the St. Louis area and southern Illinois. BJC Health System’s Western Region serves the Kansas City area and eastern Kansas and operates as Saint Luke’s Health System.
Prior to becoming the president in 2017, he served as the group’s vice president and chief medical officer in 2016. Doug also was the founding medical director of the BJC HealthCare Accountable Care Organization (ACO), chairman of the group’s Advisory Board and executive physician leader of the BJC Medical Group Physician Leadership Committee. Doug has been active in the BJC Collaborative, working on the Collaborative Care Management Resources population health initiative across health systems.
Doug joined BJC Medical Group in 1999 and practiced internal medicine at Missouri Baptist Medical Center, serving as associate chief of medicine from 2010-2016, and as team physician for the St. Louis Rams NFL team from 2000-2012.
Doug earned his medical degree from Washington University School of Medicine and his bachelor’s degree from Miami University. He served as chief resident at the University of Maryland Medical System during his medical residency. He is a member of the National Association of ACOs, and has served on the national technology and analytics committee. He has served on the Missouri Medicaid Task Force and continues to serve in the clinical leadership structures of BJC HealthCare.
